Respect, Discipline, and What You Do When No One’s Watching

At Dingerz Nation, we talk about a lot more than home runs and highlights.

This week, Jordan “Thunderbird” Sanchez kicks off a conversation that matters just as much as batting averages and exit velocity: respect, discipline, and practicing when no one is forcing you to.

Because here’s the truth about youth baseball that doesn’t get talked about enough:

Talent might get attention, but discipline keeps you on the field.

What Coaches Really Notice

Most kids think coaches only care about:

  • Big hits

  • Fast throws

  • Winning games

Those things matter, but coaches are always watching more than that.

They notice:

  • How you treat your teammates

  • How you listen during practice

  • Whether you hustle on drills you don’t like

  • How you act when you’re not starting

And yes, they notice who is putting in work outside of team practice.

Practicing on Your Own Isn’t Punishment

Practicing on your own doesn’t mean:

  • Being perfect

  • Training all day

  • Having expensive lessons

It can be simple:

  • Throwing into a net

  • Swings in the backyard

  • Footwork drills in your room

  • Watching baseball and learning the game

Those small habits add up fast.

Jordan talks about how doing just a little extra builds confidence and helps you feel ready when game day comes.

Respect Is Part of the Game

Respect in baseball isn’t about being quiet or scared to speak up.

It’s about:

  • Respecting your coaches’ time

  • Respecting your teammates’ effort

  • Respecting the game itself

When you show respect, coaches trust you more. And players who earn trust usually earn more opportunities.

From a Kid’s Perspective

This episode is different because it’s not an adult lecture.

It’s one kid talking to other kids about:

  • What actually helps

  • What actually matters

  • What makes baseball more fun and less stressful

That’s what Dingerz Nation is becoming: A place where youth baseball is talked about honestly, from the player’s point of view.

What’s Next for Dingerz Nation

Dingerz Nation is growing from a magazine concept into:

  • A youth baseball podcast

  • A community-driven directory

  • A resource for players, parents, and teams

Over the next few months, you’ll see:

  • Interviews

  • Local features

  • Training tips

  • Real conversations about youth sports

All led by kids, for kids.
